HOW WEBSITES BECOME COMPROMISED
If a compromised website is visited your computer could become infected (affects Windows machines [XP, 2k, 2003 server]:
http://www.iss.net/threats/gumblar.html ), then the FTP details stored in some FTP clients are used to infect other websites.
WHAT CAN YOU DO?
Be vigilant, use an uptodate browser such as Firefox (not Internet Explorer).
Do not store passwords within FTP clients, or web browsers (clear them now if you previously have done so). It is safer to enter the password each time you connect to your FTP server, or web control panel.
KEEP YOUR WEBSITES SAFE:
DO NOT STORE PASSWORDS within your browser or FTP client.
